Welcome to Scarlett Landscaping

Wellington's local team for earthworks, landscaping and outdoor projects.

Landscaping

We take on landscaping projects of all sizes, from smaller garden upgrades through to complete backyard transformations. Whether the space has become overgrown, outdated or simply isn’t being used to its full potential, we can clear it back and rebuild it into something clean, practical and easy to maintain. Our landscaping work can include new lawns, garden beds, planting, edging, decorative stone, pathways, drainage improvements and general reshaping of outdoor areas. We’re particularly suited to residential properties where access can be tight. With compact machinery and the right equipment, we can get into areas that larger contractors often can’t. Every property is different, so we work with the existing space and what the homeowner actually wants from it. Sometimes that means a complete transformation, while other jobs only need a few well-planned changes to make a huge difference. The aim is simple: create an outdoor space that looks sharp, works properly and is enjoyable to use.

Construction

A good landscape often needs more than plants and grass. We also take care of the construction work needed to shape, support and finish outdoor spaces properly. Our landscape construction work can include paths, edging, small retaining structures, concrete cutting, paving, garden borders, timber work and other hard landscaping features. We can also remove or alter existing structures that are taking up valuable space. This might mean cutting back an old concrete path, removing tired garden edging or changing the layout of an area before rebuilding it into something more practical. Because we handle the clearing, excavation and landscaping as well, there’s less need to organise multiple contractors for different stages of the same project. From the initial demolition and preparation through to the final finishing touches, we focus on creating solid, tidy work that fits naturally with the rest of the property.

Earthworks

Good landscaping starts with good groundwork. We provide residential earthworks for everything from lawn preparation and site levelling through to driveway excavation, drainage trenches and complete backyard reshaping. Using compact excavators, tracked barrows and other machinery suited to residential properties, we can work efficiently even where access is limited. Our earthworks services can include excavation, scraping back old surfaces, removing excess soil, levelling uneven ground, digging for drainage, preparing driveway areas and creating the correct levels for lawns, paving, gravel or other landscaping. We also pay attention to issues that might not be obvious before excavation begins. Poor drainage, unsuitable ground levels or buried material can all create problems later if they aren’t dealt with properly. Rather than simply covering over an issue, we aim to prepare the site correctly from the beginning so whatever goes on top has the best possible foundation.

Site Clearing

Sometimes the best way to improve a property is to clear everything back and start again. Our site clearing service is designed for overgrown gardens, tired landscaping and outdoor areas that have simply become too difficult to manage. We can remove unwanted plants, weeds, old lawns, gravel, garden beds, small vegetation, landscaping materials and other debris before scraping and levelling the area ready for the next stage. With compact excavators and tracked equipment, we can make quick work of jobs that would otherwise take days of manual labour. We can also load and remove the unwanted material from site, leaving you with a much cleaner space to work with. Site clearing can be completed as a standalone service or as the first stage of a larger landscaping, lawn, driveway or earthworks project. Whether you already know exactly what you want to do with the area or simply want to get an unruly section back under control, we can give you a clean slate to start from.

Gracefield Artificial Turf

Gracefield Artificial Turf

We kicked off this job in early January 2026, starting with a complete clear-out of the backyard and scraping the existing surface down to create enough clearance for the new basecourse, sand, and artificial turf. During the excavation, we uncovered an underlying drainage issue that the homeowner hadn’t previously thought much of. Heavy rain during the job quickly showed just how much of a nuisance it could become in the future, so after discussing it with the homeowner, we agreed it made sense to address the problem while the area was already opened up. The team installed Novacoil drainage, connecting it into the existing stormwater system and ensuring the correct fall before continuing with the base preparation and turf installation. The finished result completely transformed the backyard. The client was stoked with the outcome and hadn’t realised how much potential the space had. We were equally pleased with the result — a sharp, clean outdoor area with significantly less ongoing maintenance and a drainage system designed to keep it performing properly for years to come.

Johnsonville Clearout & New Grass

Johnsonville Clearout & New Grass

The photos don’t quite do justice to how overgrown and messy this backyard had become. The existing lawn was a mixture of grass and weeds, growth had pushed through the weed mat beneath the garden stones, and the concrete path was taking up valuable lawn space. Overall, the area had simply become difficult to manage. We brought in a small 1.7-tonne zero-swing excavator, tracked barrow, and plenty of elbow grease to completely transform the space. We started by scraping everything back and disposing of the old lawn, weeds, stones, and unwanted material. The concrete path was cut back to create more usable lawn area, before fresh topsoil was spread, levelled, and prepared for the new roll-out turf. Once the turf was laid, we passed on all the information the homeowner needed to look after the new lawn while it established and became self-sustaining. And just look at the result — a space that was once controlled by Mother Nature is now clean, green, and peaceful. The perfect spot for an early-morning coffee on the weekend.

Seatoun Clearout & Landscape

Seatoun Clearout & Landscape

Over time, this garden had become tired and uneven. The ground was bumpy, the planting no longer suited the space, and the gravel had become mixed with soil, weeds, and debris. With tight access to the property, we brought in a compact 1-tonne excavator and got to work stripping back the top layer and clearing out the old material. Once the area was prepared, we brought in fresh stone and planted a new selection of plants that had been hand-picked by the client. From there, we spread and levelled the stone, tidied the edges, and completed the final touches to bring everything together. The result is a clean, low-maintenance landscape that suits this seaside Seatoun property perfectly. And with a view like that, it’s not a bad place to spend an afternoon either!

Lower Hutt Garden Bed

Lower Hutt Garden Bed

This was a smaller job for us, but one that made a big difference to the space. The homeowner had a walkway down the side of the house that was looking a little dull with nothing but stone, so we created a new garden bed to add some greenery and character. We started by cutting back the existing brickwork with a concrete saw to make room for the new garden. We then mortared in fresh bricks to form a clean edge, prepared the area, and planted a selection of small trees to finish it off. A simple upgrade, but a great result. We were stoked with how it came together and how much more inviting the walkway now feels.

Scarlett Landscaping are the best at what they do, I couldn't be happier with the cost and quality. Highly recommend
